MATHEMATICS- EXTRA CURRICULUM

All department members ensure the learning of mathematics is fun and relevant to everyday life. The department is committed to maintaining high standards through extra curricular activities and cross-curricular links.

UK Mathematics Trust Challenges

Sponsored by The Actuarial Profession, the UKMT Challenges attract hundreds of thousands of entries each year and are the most highly-regarded and widely-entered of all the school Maths Competitions. Some pupils in Years 8 - 11 are entered and many Cornelius Vermuyden pupils achieve Bronze, Silver or Gold Awards for their performance. A particularly strong performance provides entry to other challenges and competitions.

Revision opportunities

To help pupils to achieve their full potential, the department offers a variety of interventions during the school day, after school and over holidays.

Nrich

Maths tutors regularly make use of resources such as "nrich" within their teaching, challenging pupils to think beyond the syllabus and improve their mathematical reasoning. New for 2014, the mathematics department welcomed Charlie Gilderdale to the school. Charlie is the NRICH project secondary Coordinator at the University of Cambridge. Charlie ran fantastic workshops throughout the day for the high achievers in the school. The pupils were challenged to rich mathematical problems in meaningful contexts.
