Cornelius Vermuyden School is committed to ensure that all pupils, regardless of their specific needs, make the best possible progress in school. We strive to be as inclusive as possible, with the needs of pupils with a Special Educational Need/s being met in a mainstream setting.

Cornelius Vermuyden has a number of pupils with EHCP, covering a broad variety of difficulties, including cognitive, developmental, sensory and physical/medical. We endeavour to ensure that all requirements set out in each EHCP are met and the appropriate levels of support provided. The great majority of support is delivered by Learning Support Assistants employed specifically for that purpose and funded by the EHCP system. Most support takes place in class so that contact with the curriculum is maintained, but in some cases withdrawal to the Learning Support base is utilised. Where stipulated in the EHCP, or if agreed with carers as better use of resources, further support may be provided by an Individual Support Teacher, one of the Learning Support staff.

EXTRA CURRICULAR

We place a strong emphasis on pupils participating in activities beyond their regular timetable. These activities develop pupils' social skills, as well as their particular talents and interests. Involvement in such activities also creates a more rounded individual that future employers and colleges look out for.
