Year 7 Boys’ Rugby Tournament

Mr Durrance, Teacher of PE
January 3, 2018

On 19th October, our Year 7 boys’ rugby squad, consisting of 26 students, competed in the first annual Canvey Island Rugby Club Community Shield Tournament. This involved schools in the close surrounding area competing against each other, while developing and applying their new found knowledge and understanding of rugby.

The students demonstrated some of the best rugby I have seen from a Year 7 side in the time I have been at Cornelius. With an outstanding work ethic and attitude to teamwork, they reached the final but sadly lost in a close fought game against King John. The students were a credit to the school, demonstrating faultless effort and showed some true potential for the future.

Credit also goes to Canvey Island RUFC for organising and officiating the event, where strong ties have begun to be built between school, student and club since August. Progress can clearly be seen in the development and engagement of students in rugby.
