Following the successful completion of the trials day that I attended on 17th May 2014, I was selected for the RYLA finals. This was a weekend residential at Mersea Island from Friday 30th May – Sunday 1st June 2014.
Over the weekend I met up with some of the people I worked with on the selection day and also met many new people.
We were put into groups for the weekend, my group was the Mandela group. We were set some very challenging team building activities such as building a ballista (an ancient missile weapon), reaching up into high places and going underground into caves. We were also set tasks that tested our mental strength and communicational skills. We hit the weekend at full speed and as a result everyone performed exceptionally well.
If I could, I would love to do another weekend course like this because not only did I learn new skills and become a better team player, I made some amazing friends.
