Although the first masterclass didn’t quite beat ‘The Beast from the East’ snowstorms, four weeks later, all the pupils - again, our biggest cohort ever – attended the grand finale at Cornelius Vermuyden on Wednesday 28th March having completed four high quality classes. The theme was ‘discovery’ and what we discovered as a school about these pupils was the togetherness and community spirit they displayed, despite coming from different schools on Canvey. The students were challenged in Maths, Science, Performing Arts and English, and the vast majority of pupils and parents rated the classes as ‘excellent’ and would recommend the school to others. Once again, the Masterclasses helped parents to make Cornelius Vermuyden their first application choice and pupils told me that they were desperate to apply to join the school in September 2019. One pupil said that she wanted to join as the school was so ‘inspiring’ to her. It was a privilege to host the children, and my thanks goes to Mrs McGregor for her tireless work behind the scenes, the prefects who week in, week out were so helpful and diligent, and to the staff of Cornelius Vermuyden who contributed to the classes.
