On 20th January, students, parents and staff were invited to enjoy the Year 11 GCSE Drama Performance Evening. The evening celebrated the student’s achievements in their Unit 1 Devising module, of which the performance was 40% of their final grade.

Eight groups presented some outstanding and inspiring Brechtian-styled pieces of their own creation, focusing on topics such as mental health, the futility of government and addiction, to name just a few.

The audience laughed as ‘Time to Take My Medication’ followed a hilarious day-in-the-life of Cynthia, played by Rebecca Watkins, who is afflicted with an unrecognised mental illness. ‘Double M’ explored a dystopian future without a police force, taking the audience on Mufaro’s journey through the monotonous society ruled by the mysterious Micro Management Group. Harry Wiseman played the satirical Chairman of Olympus ‘Nick Clogg’ in ‘Olympus Addicted’, which examined the ineffectual views of two ruling parties in the fight against addiction.

Off-stage, two talented lighting and sound technicians James Mckenzie and Jamie Rees added atmosphere and suspense to the performances through sophisticated lighting and sound designs.

Huge congratulations to all of the students for their hard work and dedication. Cornelius Vermuyden is proud to have such a talented group of young people in the Performing Arts department and we wish them all the best for their final exams.
