The catwalks at ‘London Fashion Week 2015’ were dominated by prints and cuts from the 1960s, 70s and 80s. Key designers, such as Jonathan Saunders, Christopher Kane and the fashion house of Yves Saint Laurent, were leading the way at driving the trend to look back at the past. Key features such as bold prints, flares, roll necks were combined with contemporary couture to create this seasons trends.
Mark Twain was quoted as saying: “There is no such thing as a new idea. It is impossible. We simply take a lot of old ideas and put them into a sort of mental kaleidoscope’.
At Cornelius we believe It is essential that pupils are provided with the opportunity to look back and understand the past in order to shape the future. Pupils have spent this year exploring design in the 20th century.
Year 7 pupils have channeled their research in graphics to design logos that mirror key features of the 20’s, such as New York architecture, fashion, product design. Year 8 pupils have explored a variety of decades and shared findings amongst each other, enabling them to build a compendium of knowledge and inspiration to feed in to their design work. Pupils have worked tirelessly in after school sessions to create imaginative and innovative designs, including ‘up cycling’ our previous school uniform in to new creations.
In total over 128 pupils across all year groups performed; celebrating fashion, textiles and performance. A wonderful evening enjoyed by all.
