Canvey’s Cornelius Vermuyden School has won the Castle Point and Rochford District Gymnastics competition.

The school built on the success of the junior team last year as the senior and junior team came in first and fourth places respectively, which combined together resulted in them becoming the district champions.

The competition format saw Year 7 and 8 pupils making up the junior team, while those in Years 9,10 and 11 made up the senior squad.

Each team was made up of six members with each gymnast assigned a role in either doing a pair floor routine or a quartet floor routine.

This was followed by the vault, in which each team member performed two routines.

Each execution of the particular routine was judged on three things; competition, content and execution.
