Canvey Schools Partnership Awards

Mrs C P Skewes, Headteacher
July 9, 2017

The awards evening was an opportunity to celebrate outstanding achievement publicly and with pride. Head teachers, teachers, governors, local dignitaries and representatives of Essex County council celebrated the hard earned success of our children. For the first time Cornelius Vermuyden School hosted the evening.

Year 7:

Paris Walker

Paris joined Cornelius Vermuyden School from William Read Primary School. Since being at the school, her teachers have consistently praised her highly positive and dedicated attitude towards her own education and learning, which is reflected in her outstanding attainment grades for English, Maths, History, Science and Art to name a few. Her dedication and maturity to her studies is also reflected in her conduct throughout school. She is a credit to her year and always represents Cornelius with pride.

Year 8:

Ty Walker

Ty came to Cornelius Vermuyden School from St Katherine’s Primary School and his academic progress in English, Mathematics and Science has been outstanding - indeed, he is clearly exceeding national expectations for a student of his age. Ty has also been working on a Project Qualification beyond the school curriculum and, after organising the promotion, licenses, and permits required to stage his event, 64 people attended and he raised £1200 for Leukaemia Research.

Year 9

Megan Sutherland

Megan joined the school from St Joseph’s Primary school. She is a very mature, dedicated and hardworking young lady who commits fully to whatever she sets her mind to. Megan has demonstrated outstanding 100% attendance over the last two years. This season in football has seen Megan achieve success by leading the year 9 team to the quarter finals of the County cup and was part of the school’s winning team on a recent trip to Barcelona. Megan has recently graduated from the Brilliant Club with a 2:1 and is a true credit to have in the year group

Year 10

Rebecca Smith

Since joining Cornelius in year 7 from Winter Gardens Primary school. Rebecca has always set her sights high and her Academic success across all subjects is a reflection of this ethos. Her current high grades in English, History and Art represent this drive to achieve. She has represented the school in various extra-curricular events, but most notably during the Children’s University Awards evening. Her outstanding commitment to her studies and extracurricular activities is without question and has led to her becoming a Prefect and part of the Student leadership group.

Year 11

Rebecca Watkins

Winter gardens Junior School’s loss was most definitely Cornelius’ gain. Since her arrival, Rebecca has wowed and amazed with her artistry and style. She is the quintessential ‘Culture Vulture”. Well read, witty and informed: a weaver of words; an English and Drama teachers’ dream student; the name on a class list that makes teachers of all subjects sigh and smile. Rebecca is one of the highest achieving girls in the school’s Progress 8 League table and has held this position for the whole academic year; in the Summer examinations it is predicted that she will achieve 10 GCSE grades at A*-C. This dedication and maturity to her studies is also reflected in her conduct throughout school. We know that she will continue to be bright and bold and we champion her for that. This summer Rebecca will leave Cornelius to go to go to SEEVIC to study Journalism and we wish her good luck for the future.
