SPECIAL EDUCATION NEEDS - WELCOME & EXPECTATIONS

Our Special Educational Needs Department has a dedicated team who strive to support all students who may require additional support at some time during their time at Cornelius. Students are supported in a variety of ways; within the classroom, small group work, 1:1 mentoring and are encouraged at all times to develop resilience and independence to maximise self-esteem and confidence.

The team work closely with teachers to support high quality teaching methods and support differentiation for those students who need additional help to achieve their potential.

All pupils on the special needs register will have a student learning plan which outlines their specific difficulties and offers strategies to support these individuals in their education. The young person and their parents will be invited to attend meetings to identify what the specific barriers might be to learning so that appropriate interventions can be put in place and monitored.

For some students there is a differentiated curriculum offered in both key stage 3 and key stage 4. These programmes are intended to aid the transition between key stages and allow students to receive a bespoke education to support their varying needs.
