On Thursday 26th January, The Yellow Door visited The Cornelius Vermuyden School, for a Carousel Day and met with students from Years 7-11. This was a great opportunity for our students to find out more about what they do and how they can potentially support in the coming years. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all parents and carers who also attended the session for them after school where they spoke to the Yellow Door workers and had the opportunity to ask questions and become more aware of the services. Your support is much appreciated.

Cyber Safety – Essex Police – Thursday 19th January
On Thursday 19th January, students in years 7, 8, 9 and 10 attended an assembly delivered by the Essex Police service on ‘Cyber Safety’.

After the success of last year, we are holding our annual careers fair on 30th March 2023. Students will have an opportunity throughout the day to meet with employers, colleges, apprenticeship providers and external companies.

With over 500 books donated and £92.40 raised for our Library we can safely say that this has been the most successful Christmas book drives thanks to the students, staff and local community

Friday 16th December saw the school host its Xmas dinner. Pupils were able to purchase Xmas dinner and got to enjoy a fantastic roast dinner and Xmas dessert.

Jack Petchey Foundation
On Thursday 8th December, the school attended the Jack Petchey award ceremony at Waterside Farm, to celebrate our award winners. The following students were our winners for 2022 and were nominated by staff and students at the school

Photos from the visit to the school of local Chef John Lawson. He spent time with Hospitality and Catering pupils, from Years 10 and 11 discussing and demonstrating how to cook certain meals and talked about his restaurant in Leigh -on-Sea.

Cornelius Vermuyden School takes part in the Reading World Cup Challenge?.
As part of the National Literacy Trust campaign, we are embracing reading alongside football fever! On Friday 18th November, we took part in the live World Cup Reading Challenge launch event. This digital event featured conversations with authors Alex Bellos and Ben Lyttleton hosted by Kenzi Benali during break one in the library.
More information about this event can be found with Mrs Wood, our school librarian or Miss Mayhew who is leading reading at Cornelius.
I am delighted to share that in the summer term, the school graudated from the programme and our case study and significant improvements in our behaviour culture were recongnised by the Department for Education. To support this, the school was priviliged to be visited by Minister Robin Walker (Minister of State for School Standards), Rebecca Harris MP, Laura Stagg (Director of Education for the Education Development Trust) and other DfE representatives to receive external validation of the work that we have done.
