Year 11 students came into school for a completely different experience on Friday 25 November. Students were dressed to impress and had a day of activities focussed on the skills and qualities needed to succeed in the workplace and how to find and apply for a job, including CV preparation and mock interviews.
Students spent the first session learning how to make a good first impression, how to present themselves at an interview and what to include in their Curriculum Vitae. Although some students had already completed their CV, lots of new ideas were suggested and this was the part of the day that all students said they benefitted from.
The second part of the day was the practical mock interview. Many students were extremely nervous about this but, with the training that they had received in the morning, they excelled in the interview process. The feedback from the business guests was that our students were impeccably dressed, mature, interesting, articulate, confident and full of excellent questions.
The students were involved in a range of enterprise and employability activities that were designed to engender an awareness of the world of work; preparing young people to secure employment and helping them acquire the ‘soft’ skills that will enable them to make the most of changing opportunities in education and the labour market.
In addition, the day was about encouraging our students to be enterprising, to develop a positive attitude to change, to take reasonable risks and gain the necessary drive to make ideas happen and see tasks through to completion.
The day was a real success and this will give out students a huge advantage when going forward into their first interview experience.
