When Mia Met Olly

Our very brave Year 7 student, Mia Horne, who is living with a brain tumour, had her dream come true when she was picked to sing alongside popstar Olly Murs in a special event for seriously ill children.

Mia is currently having chemotherapy at London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital to treat her brain tumour. She was diagnosed with the cancer in 2011 and, as a result of this, has lost her sight as well as enduring many other medical complications.

As a treat, Mia was invited to an exclusive festive event at the Lowry Hotel in Manchester, hosted by the Rays of Sunshine Children’s Charity, of which Olly Murs is a patron. She was one of eight lucky youngsters who got to meet him. Mia travelled all the way to Manchester for the special event and was over the moon when she got the chance to get up close and personal with the popstar, even having the chance to sing his hit ‘Troublemaker’ with him. She also asked him lots of questions and has not stopped talking to her friends about her special moment with Olly.

We are all very proud of Mia. She has a positive outlook on life, a bright and bubbly personality and is a fantastic role model for the other Year 7 students.
