Science Fair 2017

Science Department
July 16, 2017

Science fairs are when students present a scientific project in the form of a display board or model they have made. They have to be able to stand up to a tough series of questions from a panel of experts -our amazing team of science teachers.

Our first ever Science Fair was a huge success. We had over ten teams take part and the quality of the projects produced was extremely high. The competitors had to answer tough questions on their projects, and discuss their findings in a clear, concise manner. We were overwhelmed with how much talent there was on display and how in depth their research was. However there can only be one winner.

In joint third place was Aaron Ebdon and Finley Melville (Y9) with a rocket designed to guide visually impaired athletes around a running track. The other team in third was Alfie Kingsford and Adam Nash-De-Villiers (Y9) with a fantastic project based on a floodwater alert system.

In second place was Elle McGrath, Nathan Barlow, Kelsey Brooks, and Ellie Clements (all Y10) who researched how music and noise affects short term and long term memory. Being a team of year ten students they linked this to revision that is high on the agenda for them this year.

Our overall winners were Grace Smith (Y10) and Karis Collett (Y10) with an outstanding project in which they designed and created a hydraulic crane system with the ability to pick things up. The scientific research that they undertook was enormous and they won unanimously. It truly was a spectacular project.

Well done to all those who took part; we are already excited for next year’s competition.
