On Friday 21st October 2016, three of our high achieving former pupils came and helped out in the Humanities department.
Becky Gardner, Emily Curtis and Maisie Waterston left the school in 2015 and now study A-Levels in Year 13 at Seevic; on Friday, they went into lessons and spoke to a range of pupils about their educational experiences after leaving school.
All three are applying for University; Emily is hoping to attend Kings College London to read English Literature, and Maisie has just received an offer from Cardiff University to study Psychology. However, Maisie is also coaching herself for the Oxford University Entrance Examination to ’see if she can pass it’! Becky loves Geography, and was inspired by Miss Goodwin to study it beyond GCSE and is currently looking at a career as Geography teacher.
Mr Keenan was delighted to have them in school. “I had contact from a group of former pupils about coming into the school to help out in subjects they were studying in at A-Level, after I sent out an appeal via a former pupil I met recently. After meeting them last week, it was clear that they loved their time at the school, and were really keen to give something back to the pupils. Their achievements at GCSE in 2015 were amongst the highest in the year group therefore, for our younger pupils to meet them and hear about their success is both aspirational and inspiring. My goal is to get as many former pupils back into the school community to act as leaders for the next generation. Becky, Emily and Maisie valued the experience and will continue to come back in to help out throughout the year.”
