Football League Girls Cup

November 5, 2015

The Football League Girls Cup is a national six aside tournament for junior footballers which offers the once in a lifetime opportunity to play at Wembley Stadium.

The Football League Girls Cup is for U13 girls and culminates in a grand final at Wembley Stadium in March. Each of the 72 Football League clubs organise a local competition for all schools wishing to take part in their area. The winners of that competition then go on to represent the club in the Area, Regional and National phases of the competition, where they will face schools representing other League clubs.

Cornelius Vermuyden entered our U13 girls into the tournament organised in our area by Southend United Football Club, which took place at Waterside Farm on Thursday 5th November.

The girls fought hard against King John, Appleton A and B teams, St Martin’s A and B teams, Chase High School and James Hornsby. The girls displayed great teamwork and determination resulting in a 0-0 draw against St Martin’s and wins in all their other games. Having not conceded a single goal throughout the tournament these results secured Cornelius a place in the final where they faced King John. We are very proud to report that the girls emerged victorious, winning 1-0 to become the Football League Club Final Winners.

Special mention must go to Macie Windsor in Year 7 who was nominated player of the tournament by the Southend United organisers.

Looking forward to the next round girls, congratulations and well done.
