Celebrating The Queens 90th Birthday

April 20, 2016

Today is the Queen’s 90th birthday. She became Queen on 6th February 1952 following the death of her father, George VI. During her reign, she has performed many duties including presenting the football World Cup to the winning England team on 30th July 1966. On 9th September 2015, she became our longest serving monarch and since she became Queen, she has celebrated 2 birthdays each year; one on 21st April and the other, her “official birthday”, is celebrated in June. This dates back to a tradition started by King George II in 1748 whose birthday was in November and who felt that this time of the year was too cold for his annual birthday parade. However, the Queen does not receive 2 sets of presents!

To help the Queen to celebrate, students were treated today with Union Jack cupcakes during tutor time. Happy birthday Queen Elizabeth.
